Summary:

Divide and Conquer
• Break down into small chunks and conquer every aspect

Practice at the seams
• Practice the transition points from one bar to another, or one section to another

Mix and Match
• Start your practice at different places - not always from start to finish

Slow Practice
• Imagine the music was written in slower note values (from quavers to crotchets for example)
• Play and release: release tension in-between every note or group of notes
• Tai-chi method: slowly mold your fingers into the next shape

Looping
• Have clear intentions when you loop
• Make improvements every repetition
• Focus on perfecting musical elements

80/20
• Identify repetitions and practice only the changing elements

Left Hand Only
• Practice the piece/passage with just your left hand. Mute the strings with your right hand to take away sound.

Right Hand Only
• Practice an open strings version of the piece/passage

Separate Parts
• Practice each individual part on its own (melody, bass, etc.)

Action Points:

1. Apply 2-3 practice methods to passages from piece you're working on
2. Record a video that quickly demonstrates these methods being applied. Share on Slack.
