Like you, I'm a strong believer in bringing music to life through understanding, interpretation, coloring, inflecting, and so on. This is different to some who advocates to strictly playing only what's on the score.

For me, there are much deeper layers to explore that go way beyond things written on the page. Understanding harmony is the key to untapping these layers.

In addition, a deeper knowledge and understanding of music brings with it tools for composing and improvising.

For example, here is something that was composed by someone after studying a piece of music to gain understanding and inspiration:

Because you're interested in harmony, you have a special gift that I want to help develop and nurture as much as possible.

Here are two resources I'd like you to have. One is for those who wish to learn triads thoroughly and the other is for those who need a more structured practice routine that's especially focused on harmony.

Discover new ways to practice this gorgeous piece to enhance your understanding and technical mastery.

This book aims to simplify the learning
process by breaking the piece down into its constituent parts.

It makes a great combo with Fundamental Harmony, as you'll see many of the same chord structures at work in Recuerdos de la Alhambra.

There’s also detailed information on practicing the tremolo technique.

What kind of arpeggios were the great 19th century virtuosos such as Mertz, Sor, Carcassi, and Pratten practicing?

These more obscure arpeggio patterns are fun, challenging, and relevant to music-making. Open up new doorways towards composing and improvising by practicing like the great 19th c. masters!

Combine these arpeggios with the exercises in Fundamental Harmony for a match made in Heaven. This process is also a great first step towards composing and improvising.

If you're looking for a refreshing alternative to Segovia's Diatonic Major and Minor Scales, then these scales provide the answer.

Mertz's scales do not traverse as many octaves as Segovia's, so they are great material for beginner level, as well as advanced level guitarists.

In addition, Mertz provides beautiful chord progressions after each scale. Combining scales and chords makes for a great technical workout, so this book can accompany Fundamental Harmony very nicely.

Warm Up Exercises That Will Make Your Playing On Fire: An Online Course

Having great pieces to play without the technique to play them well can be disappointing! A good warm up routine can really help with everything you do that follows. Those tricky passages are made easier, errors are much less likely to creep in, and overall you're much more likely to avoid injury or pain/fatigue.

These exercises are the ones I've been using for many years and cover a varied range of topics. Over my whole career, I've never even been close to having an injury - that's largely thanks to valuing a thorough warm up routine.
